Another foster kitten
Another foster kitten at our house again,
And of course Momo remembers to show his displeasure.
He was in the kitchen drinking from the water bowl when the disgusting kitten appeared in from of him.
He growled.

Backlog Post: Kopi to the vet
20 July 2013
It was Kopi's 6th birthday,
and yet we were taking her to the vet.
For quite a while there was a lump growing at one of her teats.
She was eating fine, running and all that so we didn't do anything about it.
And from what we knew, operations were bad for guinea pigs.
They were too small to take such operations.
But a few days before, the swollen teat started leaking some blood.
After some discussion we decided to take her to our longtime vet Dr Vanessa.
Basically we had been stalking her whichever vet clinic she was at.
The diagnosis was mastitis, which is abit similar to breast tumour in humans.
We were quite surprised to learn that we could actually have prevented this
by taking Kopi for sterilisation when she was younger.
(Once again due to a belief that guinea pigs will actually die from sterilisation surgeries)
So the lesson is, whether you have a dog or cat or guinea pig or rabbit,
it is always better to sterilise them to prevent such illnesses from occuring.
Dr Vanessa told us the best thing would be to excise this growth,
however she allowed us to go home and mull over our decision.
2 days later Ougwee bought her in for the surgery,
and she whatsapped me the photo of the excised growth
(which I shall not post her)
For these few days Kopi's right leg is a little shorter than the other
due to the stitches holding the wound together,
but after a while it will be even out when the tissues start growing back.

We all know it was time for her to go soon.
Her so-called age at adoption was 3 month, but it was certainly much more.
So probably when she went she was about 7-years old.
A few months before she started getting old:
fur loss, getting slow and lethargic, a bit of eyesight problem.
The few days before she went,
she lost so much weight that her hip joint could be seen under her furless skin.
She left in the middle of the night and Popo helped cleaned up,
and left a note: ben ben 走了 (Beanbean has left)
We all wondered if Kopi knew her companion had passed away,
and how she felt.
After a while we thought that she might not really have felt anything, or realised anything.
Then when we were talking to Popo,
she told us that night when Beanbean became motionless,
Kopi was nudging her with her nose.
So she knew.
That felt abit sad.
We all know it was time for her to go soon.

Momo's new irritating habit
Recently Momo had developed a rather irritating habit,
which I never figured out why the hell he kept doing that.
When everyone was sleeping,
he would lie along the front of the wardrobe, facing it.
Then he stuck out his paw and pulled the wardrobe door slightly open
by holding his paw against the bottom of the door.
Then let go
"BAM"
Pulled door slightly open
Let go
"BAM"
On a glorious weekend morning when he felt everyone should be awake as usual.
which I never figured out why the hell he kept doing that.

So far Cookie Monster has been very nice about his e-collar and medicine.
His e-collar, he was upset with it for a while,
and kept walking backward in a bid to get the thing off
By night he had accepted it and was back to his sweet self.
For the next 8 days he had the e-collar on,
we occasionally had to shift things out of his way for him.
A stool is in his way, and yet he tries pushing his way forward,
until the stool miraculously shifted to the left,
and then he could continue his way
It's been quite long since we needed to feed pills to any cat,
so I was a little rusty.
So thankful to Cookie Monster,
who always swallow his pills automatically after putting it into his mouth
No need to clamp his mouth and make him swallow and all :)

Just as I open the food container and prepare to fill Momo's plate
(as I always distribute in order of age),
Momo does a kungfu swoop so that he is in front of Cookie Monster's plate instead,
believing that plate will get food first.

Annual vaccination again!
Stalked the vet all the way to her new clinic at Bukit Batok, My Family Vet
Miaomiao and Momo got their deworming and vaccinations.
And finally we got the vet's verdict that Momo is indeed overweight,
much to Ougwee's disappointment
who was always defending him
("Momo is not fat. He just have big bones ")
Cookie Monster had his vaccination postponed cos he got an antihistamine injection for his bald skin patches instead
So it's now medicine for the next two weeks, and an e-collar for the next one week to let his skin heal
Nowadays he is known as the Ice Cream Cone.
Ice Cream Cone was quite upset having the e -collar on him,
and he kept walking backwards in a vain attempt to get the cone off and banging into places since he had not adjusted his vision yet
Thankfully by night time,
he had come to terms with the e-collar,
and was back to his sweet self.
(Including his habit of rubbing his chin against all humans and objects
so his cone still kept banging into everything )

Cookie Monster's 1st year!
9 February 2013: One year since Cookie Monster came
We don't know how Cookie Monster lived before we met him,
had never seen him around downstairs before that,
which means he could have been very recently abandoned.
But yet the bad blisters on his feet seemed to indicate that
he had been loitering around downstairs for quite some time
Some people say,
you don't choose your cat,
your cat choose you.
I think he chose us.
His joining the family hasn't been easy,
after the episode of the crazy new kitten with a mole,
Miaomiao and Pepper haven't been too welcoming to another newcomer.
Momo has always not been welcoming to another newcomer too.
His few weeks at the house was filled with a bit of growling from Momo,
some helpful headwhacks from Miaomiao,
and the cold shoulder from Pepper.
As a result he occasionally hid on top of the closet,
with us not able to find him til we spotted his big ears above the closet.
But despite all these he was determined to make friends with the rest.
Once when Momo growled at him,
he did this weird-tilt-his-head-while-making-funny-sounds-back thing,
and Momo stopped the growling.
Like a younger brother full of adoration
he would always follow Momo around and try to play with him,
til one day we were so surprised to see,
the two were lying together like best buddies
Miaomiao always hated chasing games cos the boys were too rough,
but she was always comfortable playing with Cookie Monster,
cos Cookie Monster would always stop before reaching her;
and then run the other way, waiting for Miaomiao to chase back
To date Pepper still likes to go over to intimidate Cookie Monster,
and Cookie Monster would always give in.
Poor thing..
We can only guess Cookie Monster was about one year old when he first came,
but yet he could also be two, three or even four year old.
Whatever his real age,

Happy 4th Birthday Miaomiao!
28 January 2013: Miaomiao have been with us for four years!
Time sure passes fast,
we've been waking up with her every day
til we lost track of the number of days
Finally after so many years,
she doesn't act like a lowly person just came to bed,
every time I go to my bed for sleep.
Her staying in my bed when I go to sleep
cushions my dignity so much.
And she doesn't get upset and leave my bed
when I accidentally kick her in the middle of my sleep.
She finally gets used to random kicking feet :)
She is one year older,
but yet she seems to show her little girl side more these days,
trying to get attention and so forth.
Her tummy is getting rounder,
time to diet!

Only Girl (In the House)
Quite a few times the boys don't seem to realise
that they shouldn't treat Miaomiao the way they do.
Such as jumping on Miaomiao and biting her,
attacking her the moment she jumps out of the litter box
(I don't know what is so fun about that)
And the most recent record,
Pepper grabbing Miaomiao and kicking her
like how cats attack mouses.
He really forgot who was the one who let him suckle
at her fake milk bar when he was a little kid
So ungrateful.
And Miaomiao being a very prim and proper girl,
of course gets upset when they do such things to her
And she niaks niaks all day long...

The Unreasonable Miaomiao
Miaomiao really gives the female species a bad name.
One fine day she was acting cute and rolling around on the floor mat
(I don't think the floor mat smells all that nice)
Then in the midst of her rolling about she saw Pepper,
who happened to be sitting there way before she came over.
NIAK! NIAK!
Pepper earned about two to three whacks from the holy paw,
for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

How to teach a cat
I finally got Pepper to learn to use the scratching post.
It isn't that hard I have to say.
But first, you need to buy a black scrunchie.
Not just any black scrunchie.
It has to be the one you see selling at S$1 at typical hair accessory outlets.
The one with strings sticking all around,
and the thicker type, like this:
Pepper doesn't like just any scrunchie.
So you put this on top of the scratching post,
and in the process of him standing up trying to grab it,
he accidentally scratches on the post
and finally got enlightened about the existence of the scratching post.
So there, Momo still haven't got it yet though..
