Broke!

We brought Momo to the vet today,
and he was a very brave boy,
not making noise on the journey
(can I say here that I'm not trying
to say that Pepper is very unbrave?)

The taxi uncles seem to have all gone to bai nian today

But he is quite scared of dogs though.
At the vet waiting area
there were many dogs waiting for their turns
(maybe at least 5)
And while all the dogs were socialising,
Momo were doing his "heh-heh" routine,
which is his style of snarling that no one notices
except his mamas
In case if it is hard to imagine what he was doing,
think Harry Potter doing that snake language.
It's something like that.

Then anyway it's lucky that we brought him to the vet today
(We noticed his swollen eye yesterday)
Because, there is more to what meets the eye
(Cool huh right? My phrasing and not the ailment lah!)

The vet, after having looked at his swollen eye
and taken note of his sneezing fit,
diagnosed him with cat flu

And then she looked at his fur
and decided to do a microscopic test
And she found that he had lice

By this time Momo was trembling
I guess he has his unbrave times sometimes....

So we had to get flu antibiotics,
Vitamin B, lice spray for him,
and also lice prevention chemical
to apply on Pepper and MiaoMiao,
one box for each cat

Which came up to quite an ungodly amount,
considering that a small little cat went to the vet

When the cats have three mamas,
each born in the Year of the Tiger, Snake and Monkey,
all which coincidentally clashes with the Year of 2010,
the mamas tend to go broke quite easy.

And it turns out that Momo is not too cooperative in taking medicines,
so he either promotes us to a sergeant (adds 3 scratch lines to our wrist)
or promotes us to a corporal (adds 2 scratch lines to our wrist)

We will have to bring him back
if his eye doesn't swells down by Monday
We hope it does gets better...

Momo's swollen eye

Momo's left eye is all swollen..
So the inside of the eye flesh is protruding
His butt is still quite smelly
I wonder why.

I guess we have to take him to the vet tomorrow
The vet must get tired from seeing us all the time

And that means bills, bills and bills.

The Cats' CNY Resolutions

Momo: Wants to contribute to recycling Mother Earth's resources.
            So he jumps into the recycling bag, hoping that his fur would
            make a nice warm jacket for some poor babies out there......

Pepper: Getting too depressed nowadays to make any resolution.
             Maybe he might want to start on his tummy flab.
             It's cute though, he can keep it if he wants :0

MiaoMiao: Wants to be more daring. No more boring plain water, only BEER!
                  Actually, ROOT beer....
                 It's still one step to bravery though.

                 *Someone knocks on front door*
                 *Timid MiaoMiao quickly dash off and hide under the bed*

Progress report on the sick cats

Pepper has more or less recovered from his illness
So maybe that's why
he feels quite reluctant to take any more antibiotics

But face the facts Pepper!
Antibiotics are antibiotics,
you need to finish them!
So 3 more days to go Pepper!

On the other hand,
Momo'e eyes are still red.
The eye drops don't seem to be working

And today I saw this on the literature:
"Patients are advised not to wear contact lens
during treatment.."
So this thing is for humans!
(Unless there are some cats out there
wearing contact lens)

So we might need to bring Momo back to the vet,
because on top of his eye problem,
he has been sneezing from yesterday

So we can't vaccinate him. Yet.

And also Momo was on eye drop medication
for his red eyes if you remember

Today Emily and Ougwee
sneaked up on Momo,
while he was sleeping
to put the eye drop into his eye

*pulls open first eye lid*
*add eye drop into eye*

No reaction from Momo

They then proceeded to the next eye

*pulls open second eye lid*

Then Momo suddenly wakes up,
and gave a surprised meow,
with an extremely shocked expression
like "why is my eye wet when it should be dry?"
(as quoted by the eye-droppers)

Pepper's on the road to recovery

Pepper is recovering!
Yesterday his meow started to return,
but he only meowed a few times in the morning

Today he walked across our beds a few times,
giving a meow much closer to his usual one,
waking us up about 3 times in the morning

He probably wanted to let us know that his meow is back.

Yesterday he didn't put up much resistance
when it was time to feed him the tablet
Perhaps he realised that the medicine was good for him :)

Pepper to the vet :(

We realised that Pepper was really sick, not depressed
about the day before.
So we got him to the vet today when it was open after CNY
Momo came along for a health check-up

Once he was out of the house,
away from MiaoMiao,
he started wailing and howling like a baby.
We then decided to go back to get MiaoMiao too,
but MiaoMiao hates the carrier when it is out of the house,
so, it was Pepper with the company of Momo to the vet

Pepper's been diagnosed with gingivitis,
which is associated with the imflammation of the gums,
and also he's got some pretty bad ulcers in his mouth

No wonder he couldn't eat anything!
And that might be the reason for him not meowing too

We would need to bring him back to the vet
should he not show any improvements within 2 days.

And Pepper is now 4.3kg by the way

Then after Pepper,
it's was Momo's turn for a check up
Momo was generally fine,
but his eyes were a little red
and his tummy was bloated,
because of his fast eating habbit

Then the assistant helped to cut off a bit of the sharp parts of the nails
and Momo scratched her!
The assistant's finger bled and we were quite "conscience-stricken"

So all in all we stayed quite long in the vet's room,
because she didn't rush through our consultation.

*fans face with both hands* "SO EMBARRASSING!"

I'm going to say:

Dr Vanessa Lim is a very good vet!!!

Missed it? Then it's your problem. Hehe.

P.S: And the nurse misses MiaoMiao!
 She asked about her. To think MiaoMiao
was so unfriendly to the receptionist the other time....

Momo's got piles

I suspect Momo could be having some form of piles
The way he walks,
it's like there's something stuck in his butt
(But I think that's just how his mama walks)

And the way he sleeps

I think it kinds of looks like

he's scared that he will squash his piles,

if he slept in alternative positions.

Anyway he seems to be always smelly

Other than the fact that he likes to sleep in the litter tray,
he could be a little sick.

We might need to take him to the vet somewhere this week

The "christening" ceremony

We realised that Popo always ties a ribbon for the new cat
So we also got her to tie for Momo,
it's like a christening ceremony thing

Orh Ewwl!!!~

We miss Pepper's alto "Orh Ewwl!" meow!

I'm not sure if it is because
he feels that he need to look like the big brother,
or he is feeling sick (but doesn't look like it),
that his meow has changed greatly

Instead of the tenor "Orh Ewwl!",
he goes like bass "meow!"

I don't think cats have those
breaking voice issue due to puberty right?

Let's hope he will find his meow back again,
because it's really cute to have it in Pepper

Momo's constipating

Momo has been constipating these few days,
cos he has not been drinking any water,
even if the water bowl was placed right in front of him

Then I saw him licking the wet laundry hanging in the kitchen.
I used a syringe to feed water into his mouth,
which he then drank at least 10cm worth of water
(It's the tiny syringe kind lah,
not that bigbig one they use to withdraw blood)

Then I placed him again in front of the water bowl,
hoping that he would try to drink some water

He did.
But I think he might be afraid of drowning in the water bowl,
because the moment he touched  the water,
and took a sip,
he immediately withdrew his head from  the water bowl

Pepper and MiaoMiao have been playing with him
since the day he dared to approach them

We are kind of scared that they will squash him or something,
he is so small!
But I can see  that
they are careful not to hurt Momo :)

And yesterday Momo the very small one,
MIA-ed for one hour
and Ougwee and I couldn't find him,
despite searching for very long

MiaoMiao helped to look for him
(at least I think she didn't think that
we were looking for her pingpong ball!),
while Pepper was quite "bochap" (nonchalant)
and carried on with his nap on the table.

Then after quite a long searching on my part,
I saw Pepper peeking underneath the kitchen cabinet

I looked,
and there Momo was,
sleeping down there!

Pepper wants to see that we've put enough efforts
before revealing Momo's whereabouts you see :)

Anyway both MiaoMiao and Pepper got treats
after the search for being so helpful :)

Our new member Momo

Our new member, Momo:

Momo means "peach" in Japanese,
but the Momo here is more of short for "MoleMole"
If you just look at the picture you will know

So his Japanese name, if he wants one, would be
墨磨 一粒痣

Pepper doesn't seem to have one yet,
but I will think of one when I'm free

Anyway, we were supposed to "Stop at Two",
as what the government used to encourage hehe!

The lesson learnt is that no matter for what reason,
never, never ever, ever let other cats into our house again!

We housed the mother and him and his sister kitten
while the mother recovered from sterilisation
His sister has went to her new family,
while somewhat, somehow,
he is now a new member of our home!

By the way he's a New Year's Eve baby
(It's either 31 December 09 or 1 Jan 10,
we kind of decided New Year's Eve sounds better)

He's the only lucky fellow amongst the 3 cats
who knows his birthday.

Currently he is kind of in his own world,
playing with himself
MiaoMiao tried to play with him
but I guess he didn't really realise it

But I strongly emphasise that
this is not a hint for presents or whatever.

We already got enough cats on our hand as it is.

NOTES:

Observations made during an afternoon at home:
1. Pepper bolting from the living room to the kitchen, and back again.
    What he doesn't realise is that while he is doing this, his stomach
    flab is flapping right and left. Seriously.
    From his back view you see a flab of thing flipping left then right.

    Pepper stop drinking so much beer!

2. MiaoMiao is staring dismally at the litter tray.
    (I checked, the litter tray was clean!)
    And I mean really dismally, like why-is-my-litter-tray-from-Daiso-
    and-not-from-Pets-Safari kind of look.

3. Pepper climbs up onto the kitchen table and starts walking all over.

4. At this time MiaoMiao positions herself in the living room, just a few steps
    from the kitchen, and makes her "euw-euw-euw-euw-euw" sound.
    I suspect that she was actually trying to "sabo" Pepper.

5. Whoever who received MiaoMiao's tip off proceeds to scold Pepper.

6. Pepper gives a pitiful meow and seeks refuge in the bedroom, pride
    obviously hurt.

7. MiaoMiao suddenly remembers she is hungry and sits in front of her food
   dish, and LOOK. Someday Mama will notice her and feed her....

8. Pepper recovers from his hurt pride and starts getting up to more trouble....
    The nature of the trouble created can vary from day to day....
    (Okay, maybe he's not that naughty, but he's not that angelic either)

9. For that day Pepper decides to just keep to chasing the broom around.
    For this he gets closed in the bedroom until sweeping is finished.
    During his imprisonment, MiaoMiao remain outside the bedroom door
    to console him.

10. The 2 of them get tired and take their naps at their favourite spots, the beds.

If you have somewhat gotten sense of this picture,

the kittens are Jasper, Queenie, Bella and Pepper, from left to right

There is this auntie who fed the mother,

and so she saw them and took this photograph while they were milking

Which was before the bundle of them came into our house!

That we found out only after so many hours of conversation 

And so we finally found out who Pepper's mum is

At least about one month after we got Pepper,

we figured that his mum was not the cat

at the construction site area

Saves us quite a lot of surprise and embarrassment
