Something about Genetics

It's quite funny the way
people look at genes and genetics
(especially when you've learned it and they haven't)

Ougwee and I were with this black stray cat,
who has 2 kittens of tuxedo coat
(black-and-white like Pepper)

Then this family who passed by came to look at the cat
And the wife very confidently commented:
" The father must be a white cat."

I held back any comments,
and thought:
"Did she think this type of thing was like art-and-craft?"

Pepper's onto being "adult"

Pepper is finally moving on to Adult kibble after so long!
(according to him)

He must hate his food
because he just never like to keep to eating Kitten kibble,
and attempt to eat from MiaoMiao's dish
time after time,
despite being whacked over the head by MiaoMiao

maybe he doesn't like the smell of pork,
 since the food contains "pork fats"

I have to admit,
it is really smelly!

And now we don't have to run over and
make him eat from his own plate
whenever we catch him snitching from MiaoMiao

Happy Birthday MiaoMiao![edited]

On this very day, in 2009,
MiaoMiao stepped into our house!

One year has passed already!

It's her "birthday" today!
Popo prepared some prawn for her birthday treat...

MiaoMiao's in the news! =D

MiaoMiao is in the news!!!
Though she is a big girl now
and isn't half as crazy for her Rugrats anymore

She just has more company now!

Pepper's friends

Pepper taking a shot with his new friends

As Calsburg puts it, "好友满天下！"

Twice we caught him licking the fur of the tissue box cover

He wants his friends to look their best I guess

Other than the 2 lions,

his 2 other best friends are of course

Kopi and BeanBean!

He runs over,

hit one of them on the butt with his paw,

and then run off again.

It's like he wants them to come catch him,

but obviously they are too scared to do so.

P.S. It's 5 more days to MiaoMiao's 1st year! =D

The MiaoMiao's manual, Chapter 6

MiaoMiao teaches us how to jump up on Mama's bed,

in just 3 simple steps.

1) Firstly position yourself approximately half a metre away from the table

in front of Mama's bed. Look at the spot slightly below the upper deck bed,

and jump!

2) When landing on the table, take note not to step on anything.

This is especially so to the very important block of thing

the Mamas call their handphone, or what Linda-mama

calls "thoorasap-muu-thuu"

After landing be sure to use enough force,

from your hind legs, to jump over the wooden fence!

3) And make sure you land gracefully and beautifully!

That's like why you are a cat. I twisted my head like this

to look pretty, but Mama is just too bad with using the camera

so the photo ended up a little blur...

And lastly if you are not a cat

(You are a human!),

you should just make do with using the ladder...

The Unwelcomed Strangers

People who come to our house:
such as the man who comes to replace the gas cylinder;
relatives who come to give out wedding invitations,
the electrician who comes to repair the wires,
all have one thing in common.

They never figured that
there are 2 cats sitting in our house.

Except for the electrician
who came to repair the lights in our bedroom,
while Pepper and MiaoMiao was taking a nap

He saw 2 heads peering out of my bed,
and asked (quite shockedly): "What is this?"

(Cats, duh!)

Anyway as I was saying most people don't know.
As soon as the 2 cats hear strangers coming to the door,
they prepare to hide,
in the place that they feel the baddie will never find them.

They get more practice than
primary school kids who have to participate in fire drills

And after the baddie leaves
they peer out cautiously,
making sure that the unwelcomed stranger is not around,
before they dare to step out into the living room

Then after a few minutes they are back to strutting around
like the king and queen of the house.

Pepper's head knock

Yesterday Ougwee was carrying Pepper.
And as she was putting Pepper down on the floor,
my hand was coming up,
and in the end the back of my hand
collided strongly with Pepper's head,
somewhere around his right eye

It must have been very painful
because the part where my hand collided
was quite painful.

He blinked his right eye repeatedly,
then we got so heart-pained
because we both beard the loud sound
when both hand and head collided

Pepper is really a good-natured cat
because he didn't seem to get angry at me
I think it was a good 5 minutes
before he totally recovered from the collision

I shall not scold him too harshly
the next time he disturbs me in my sleep

Supper Supper!!!

Kopi: "What's for supper tonight? Oh! It's Peanut-in-a-Bowl!!"

"BeanBean, share this with me! I can't finish it on my own!"

*No small animals were hurt in the making of this photo story :)

Pepper's "good" intentions

Pepper: "Mama, I was thinking since you don't have a bolster to hughug at night,

             you could hug this and sleep better"

Perhaps that was Pepper's intention

for dropping funny stuff on my bed

Nice sleep I had,

turning in my sleep

and feeling a small hard object press into my arm

Pepper's new routine

The night was peaceful,
with the cool gentle wind blowing in through the window

Until the Cat named Pepper came
He jumped up on his mama's bed,
and then proceeded on his new favourite routine

DIG DIG DIG DIG DIG DIG
He started digging at the bed,
as he would at his litter box

Mama is not waking up?
No worries, Plan B then.

Then he moves over to one of the feet,
and holds it with his two little paws.

KICK KICK KICK KICK KICK
Not to mention a little nibbling at the toes

Can I emphasise again that despite his very naughty act,
Mama is still nice enough not to kick him into the air,
although if it's kind of a reflex action thing.

Of course he must be fair to both feet
and do his kicking and biting thing to the other one too

Mama finally gets up and scolds him for being so naughty.

Pepper: "So fierce for what?"

Then he jumps to the other bed to try his routine out again

Losses caused by Pepper's new pastime:
2 small holes in Linda's bedsheet
1 big hole in Emily's pillowcase
About 10 minutes loss of sleep per night

The Mystery of the Fan - Resolved

Pepper also likes to lie against the fan
(those short fans on the floor)

Sometimes the fan suddenly changes
from speed 1 to speed 3.

And when the weather is hot,
the fan suddenly switches off.

Mysterious?

Actually not so,
Pepper's paws are doing the work
It's just that when he switches off the fan,
he doesn't know how to switch it back on

so we just have to walk over to switch it on again :(

Rules are meant to be broken

As I am typing this,
Pepper is lazily lying on the table,
with his butt butt against the side of my laptop,
perhaps for the warmth that my laptop is radiating

Rules are no use for pets like cats and dogs sometimes,
cos they break 'em all anyway

He looks so cute lying on the table that
we don't really bother to scold him anymore

And now he is slowly drifting off into dreamland
With his eyewhites showing
because his eyeballs simply roll upwards
when he's going to fall asleep

We just pray that our homework
won't be of much interest to him

Old habits die hard

MiaoMiao made her classic "euw-euw-euw-euw-euw" sound today

Time for food!
Feed MiaoMiao!

Then after a few bites she left her plate

Then when I walked back into the kitchen
she came back to her plate,
and resumed eating

So I sat there and watched her
while she eat

It's quite funny
that even when MiaoMiao grows up,
she still must have somebody accompanying her
while she eats :)

When she was young
she almost only ate when there were someone around
Now she is more independent
but maybe she still wants to be a little girl sometimes!

When the cat is near the handphone

Today Pepper sat on the refrigerator.
(Our fridge is not too tall,
quite an old model.
It's not that Pepper has that superb climbing skills,
that he is able to climb and sit on it every other day)

And today Ougwee's phone was on the refrigerator.
A handphone and Pepper sitting on the same surface,
simply means disaster.

However, trusting as Ougwee was towards Pepper,
she felt it safe to leave them together for that few seconds.

Pepper used his paw to push the handphone off the refrigerator,
watching it as it dropped on to the floor

Then seeing how fun it was,
he decided to push down a fridge magnet along with it,
with that same cool nonchalant manner he did with the handphone

Ougwee, seeing her precious phone drop, screamed
And Pepper looked boredly at her,
like "What is the big hoo-haa, Mama?"

"Why are your eyes so big, Grandma?"

"So that I can have a better look at you, my dear"

"Why are your ears so big, Grandma?"

"So that I can hear you better, my dear."

"Why is your mouth so big, Grandma?"

"So that I can EAT you!"
