It's so amusing to see a cat treat an item that we would barely notice with so much fascination and curiosity.

A glowstick. A scrap of paper. A piece of string.

As much as they are surely harmless,

Miaomiao always manages to act like it is some possibly terrorist-related item

Happy 2nd Birthday Momo!

On the 28th of December (approx) two years ago,
Momo was probably born to his mama
in someone's house in a cardboard box

We had always decided to stop at two,
but wells,
we ended up having a third (and last) one!



The finale of 2011:

20 Reasons Why We Love Momo!

1. He lets visitors know that we DO have cats in the house. The other two hide up in some dark corner whenever visitors come over, it's hard to convince people that there are cats in the house.

2. He always accompanies whoever is using a laptop. Though I think that's because he loves the heat coming from the side of the laptop.

3. He always cracks us up.

4. He takes his job as the alarm clock personnel very seriously. He ahhs and ahhhhs and ahhhhhhhs til at least two of us are up. On weekends.

5. He is very huggable! Though he feels that hugging is too girly for him and struggles to get away after 10 seconds.

6. He has a mole near his nose that we can press to keep him quiet. We wish.

7. He is the least fussy about food! He eats anything from corn to chili prawn to fried fish to baby tomatoes. Sometimes without permission...

8. He is the only one who doesn't play hard to get and comes whenever we call him.

9. We can play catching with him! He likes us to chase him for some psychotic reason.

10. Whenever we call him "Mo-chan", he replies with a "Ahhhh!!".

11. He is the only one of the three we saw when his eyes weren't even open yet.

12. With reference to #4, Emily adds on that Momo wakes us up not because he is hungry. He just wants someone for company. Which is very sweet.

13. We love his loud loud LOUD purring. So soothing :)

14. He always looks forward to cuddling and massaging from us.

15. He is a brave little cat. For one thing he isn't scared of the vacuum cleaner monster. Though I realise he likes to whack the vaccum cleaner when we are not looking.

16. His trademark lie-in-the-middle-of-nowhere syndrome. Then he starts playing "Beware the Foot Trap" game with us.

17. He treats the two guinea pigs like his friends. How many cats do that? (Miaomiao always looks at them like they are inferior creatures)

18. He is in a sense smarter because when he steals food, he doesn't take it to eat where everyone is. Unlike Pepper.

(The little boy who took his satay stash to eat in the living room. While the whole family was watching television there)

19. He seems to understand instructions (in Chinese). Once Emily told him to wake her up the following morning. He did. Another time she was just back from a trip and told him not to wake her up. The next morning he just lay quietly next to her on her bed.

20. He is a potential candidate to be a police sniffer cat. He seems to be more sensitive to smells (especially food), His nose takes him to where the food is.

Funny now that all of them has grown up,

and Momo is larger than Pepper who is larger than Miaomiao (the oldest cat)

Miaomiao the mistress

Miaomiao reminds me from time to time that she is my owner and not the other way round.

I tiredly go to my bed to sleep at night,

and Miaomiao is already sleeping smack in the centre of my bed

So I pathetically find space around her,

and am left with only one thirdth of my single-size bed to sleep

Zzzzz..

Early Christmas

Pepper just melts our hearts! 

Momo obviously hates Christmas....

The cats know

I've always thought that the cats doesn't notice when we are not at home for a few days.

Now I know they do!

Came back from a short trip today,

and went to find Miaomiao who was on my bed.

I saw that look of recognition on her face,

as her pupils dilated for a split second.

Then she rolled over on her back so that I could sayang her.

So cute!

Catless day

Out of Singapore at the moment,

no getting awoken by Momo's ahhs!,

no worries of food being snatched (by Momo again ),

no getting up from our seat every now and then to scold Miaomiao for trying to climb out the windows.

But we still miss them!

Plans thwarted

Miaomiao seriously chooses the time when her mamas are not around to try embarking on her adventure.

Yesterday night when I was on the kitchen, and the other mamas were in the bedroom,

I saw her quickly dash up to the window.

Her wondrous plans were however thwarted by the mama who was in the kitchen

Food rationing

The new supply of food is coming tomorrow, but we have already ran out of dry food (except for just a little which is reserved for Miaomiao) yesterday. Seriously, the cats must be happy that their mamas miscalculate when they need to order new supplies. Because, it’s wet food time! Except for Miaomiao, who is quite an avid fan of dry food.

I suddenly thought of the time when we only had Miaomiao. The supply of dry food ran out. We were only one day away from June so we tried to fed her alternate food, so that we could enjoy the birthday discount from PLC. She stared at the food so sorrowfully, refusing to eat, until Popo took out money asking us to buy the food without the birthday discount so that Miaomiao would eat.

Neurotism

Spotted on Wednesday, 30 November 2011, around 11pm:

A slightly neurotic tortoiseshell-coloured cat using her right paw to tap a strand of hair on the floor, while glaring at it suspiciously

Miaomiao goes exploring

Apparently after Miaomiao vomitted,

she was in the mood for a good round of exploring.

After seeing that all her mamas were in the bedroom,

playing with their phone games,

she decided that it was a good time

to sneak out!

after the mamas were done with their games,

they came out into the living room,

to see Pepper and Momo sitting on the television peering out the living room window

maybe Pepper was on the verge of following Miaomiao out,

being the easily influenced mummy boy he was.

Ougwee went out to see.

And there she saw,

Miaomiao on her little expedition.

She gestured for Miaomiao to come back, like a fierce mama does.

Miaomiao quickly galloped back into the house, since she knows that she is in trouble already.

Should we cover our windows with fine netting or something?

Vomit again!

The 3 cats now are on 100% wellness dry food diet

Miaomiao eats slower now, perhaps due to the shape of the food pellet.

Seeing that she was eating at a slower pace than Pepper last night,

I decided to let her eat herself

And not take her plate away every now and then to slow her down


I changed my bedsheets after that,

about half an hour later.

Then I saw cat vomit sitting evilly on my bed again!

luckily I discovered before my bedtime

Seriously, as quoted by Ougwee:

"Miaomiao likes to choose your bed to vomit "

Does she, when she feels the urge to vomit,

go all the way from the living room

to my bed which is on the upper deck,

before she gives in to her urge?

Wellness wellness!

The new packet of Wellness Dry food was delivered to our house today

We was fearing that the fussy cats would not like it,

since it could taste too healthy and bland

Luckily they are taking well to it!

Momo even tried to bite the packet open

How Momo greeted me outside the bedroom door today

Crazy cat

I downloaded an app Crazy Cats recently.

After playing the app for so long,

hitting a running mouse

jacking up to 100 000 points

but still no level progress or whatsoever,

I then realised that it was meant for cats to play, not for humans

I let the cats play

But they was not THAT interested in it.

Maybe it would be better if it was installed on an iPad instead

Pepper got 13000 points on his own credit

The soup thief

Popo must be very honoured that
Mr Momo LOVES the soups she makes.

He loves it so much,
on two occasions we caught him
jump up the stove counter,
helping himself to the soup

The first time we caught him,
 he fished out something from the soup
(surprisingly not made of meat) to eat

YUM YUM

The second time we caught him
he was slurping deliciously from the soup pot

The fact that he licks his mouth so happily
after his food theft crime
really makes me want to wring his neck sometimes

He doesn't bother to look guilty!

But right now he's sleeping on the chair beside me,
so cutely and peacefully..

Okay, he's forgived.

Transition!

So much for transition phase

We mixed the old and new kibbles,

as what pet guides will tell you to do

Pepper simply picked out the new kibbles from his bowl

Improving Voice Projection

Momo seems to have learnt a lesson or two
about improving voice projection

So far he finds that sitting on the chair
at the dressing table is an ideal position
so that his AHHHH!!~ will be
carried across the whole room

The snooze function in  the phone alarm
is sometimes useless,
he just keep ahh-ing til I get up

Eating one at a time

Hope Blogaway will make things more convenient.

We are trying something

in the hope that Miaomiao will stop vomitting after each meal

It seems that she vomits because

she gobbles up food whenever she is famished

So now her meals go:

Miaomiao eats a pellet

*plate is moved away til she finished with that one pellet*

Then it continues til she finish her share

So far it's working fine

Hope she will stop vomitting

WELLNESS

We are changing to WELLNESS Indoor Dry Food soon!
The cats are eating more ATAS food by the day

For some reason or other,
Miaomiao keeps vomiting after meals
when she is on the current food

Food is such a difficult topic for cats,
with so many different type of opinions
on what is good or bad for cats.

Hope WELLNESS will be worth the price!

Reminiscing childhood

and her mamas didn't have to worry
if she would get stuck in the basket,
or cause the bicycle to topple.

New name tags!

The cats' name tags were getting old,
to the point that if Momo were to get lost one day,
he wouldn't find his way back
because no one would be able to read his tag.

So I did a bit of searching online,
(I couldn't get the one where we made the original name tags anymore)
then finally found pet tag engraving service at hockgiftshop.com!

So they all have new name tags now!

I saw Miaomiao cuddled in one corner
looking rather guilty.

I then went into the bedroom.
Okay, vomit on the bed.

2. Thou shalt not talk to others.

Momo doesn't seems to like it when
Emily's iPhone rings.

While he was sitting on the table,
the phone started ringing,
so he walked over and whacked the phone.

What a possessive cat we have..

What a glorious morning.

I woke up today,
went to open the bedroom door
only to see a cat with a mole
scream at me with all his might

As I have said,
he doesn't like it when we sleep in on weekends

Desperate circumstances call for drastic measures

Momo:“Mama doesn't want to give me more food?
Then i shall hunt for myself! ”

and so Momo took the opportunity
when no one was looking,
jumped up to the stove counter where the soup pot was
(it was uncovered at that time),
fished out a piece of boiled old cucumber,
and took it down to eat!

I'm pretty amazed at the fact that
he seems to eat anything and everything.
We won't have to worry about him starving.

Waking up to Miaomiao's face

It's a erm... nice feeling to wake up to Miaomiao's face
hovering above my left eye most mornings.

Sometimes I open my eyes
and she is the very first living thing I see.
Since her face was only a few inches away from mine.

It's raining!!

Somehow he always sits under the umbrella
whenever it is left open to dry.

On the other hand,
Miaomiao never ever dares to go near..

Momo's 10 Commandants - #1

1. Thou shalt not sleep in on weekends.

Momo seems to have this idea that
everyone should be up and about on weekend mornings,
since it is such a glorious morning and all.

One Sunday morning,
Ougwee was up first.
She kept the bedroom door closed.

Maybe for the time being
Momo was satisfied that one of the mamas was up.

Then 10 o'clock came.
.
.
.
10.30am

Why are my two mamas not up yet to enjoy the glorious morning?

He stationed himself outside the bedroom door,
and was quite buay tahan already
"AHHHH! AHHH!" at the bedroom door with all his might.

Everyone must be awake when Momo is awake in the morning.

To wake someone up

Somehow when one of us has to wake
someone else in the family up for some reason,
we always turn to using the cats.

We put the cat on the bed,
let the cat walk all over the sleeping person,
and when the sleeping person wakes up blearily to Thai massage,
we go "Oh, it's time to wake up" very casually,
as if the person woke up herself

I think there is a smaller possibility of the sleeping person
getting irritated and saying "Don't disturb me lah!"

A much less offending method to wake someone up

Observations made on a quite typical night:


1. Emily goes to sleep and closes the bedroom door.

2. While the two other mamas are awake,
Pepper looks at the closed door in bewilderment,
wondering why it is closed.

3. He stands on his 2 feet and starts pawing the door.
Sometimes he even jumps up onto the table beside the door
so that he can paw the doorknob (but he has no opposable thumbs!)

4. When he decides he can't open the door
he starts to or-nell!~ rather despairingly.
Someone gets soft-hearted and opens the door for him.

6. He is happy that the door is no longer closed.
He goes in, walks one round of the room, and then comes out again.

So much effort just for that one round of the room.

The poor maligned cat

Many a times Momo plays too roughly with MiaoMiao,
and jumps on her to bite her (that is his idea of fun)

Then MiaoMiao calls “Nyak Nyak Nyak Nyak”,
then someone will come over and rescue her,
and scolds Momo for being so naughty.

Now i think actually Momo gets scolded wrongly
because of this sometimes.

There was this morning
MiaoMiao and Momo were chasing each other around,
and as MiaoMiao's mouth was going after Momo's butt,
I heard the same “Nyak Nyak Nyak” sound coming from her

Miaomiao just doesn't learn

MiaoMiao got into her adventurous mode last night again
and jumped out of the window
onto the corridor.

Luckily


1. The stupid stray cat wasn't on our corridor at that time.

2. Ougwee heard a sound at the window
and then the sound of MiaoMiao's bell outside the house.


MiaoMiao just doesn't learn.
Of course she got a stern scolding from Ougwee.
(Apparently Miaomiao held a grudge
against her til the next day,
she walked off when Ougwee came to her. Tsk.)

The Cat who is ALWAYS there.

Ougwee and I were using our laptops,
and Momo has this irritating habit
of climbing up the table,
lying on our mouse or keyboard
(and basically announce that he is there)

So as soon as we saw him
preparing to jump up again,
we quickly:

we quickly placed everything in that corner
to block him from jumping up


and if you had been observant
to see what is in the left side of the first photo,
you would have known

He still managed to come in after all
(He merely went by another route
and then slotted himself between our laptops)

At Bedtime

I was so tired yesterday night,
that I went to my bed
and simply (actually intended to)
just crash into sleep

I slumped into my bed,
and in shock felt cold gooey stuff on my arm

I quickly asked Ougwee to switch on the light,
and there it was,
cat vomit evilly sitting on my bedsheet

And to think that I just bought a new mattress protector
to replace the previous one I threw away
(which was also stained by cat vomit)

So instead of being able to sleep straight away,
Ougwee and I had to change the bedsheets,
put everything in the wash.

Thanksfully this time
the mattress protector was only stained very very slightly.

Shall spray it with Emily's Febreeze later on.
Since it says that it is able to wash
without putting in the washing machine

Finally after that,
I was able to go to sleep.

Pepper's vaccination

Today Pepper went for his annual vaccination.

We took quite a while trying to get him into a bag,

then as soon as we were out of the house and into the lift,

he started making his howling sounds

as I had to put down my phone
to cuddle and console him.

I had to drape my cardigan over him
while in the car.
Perhaps if he doesn't see anything,
he doesn't think that it's actually happening.

While we were waiting,
the very friendly assistant who likes cats a lot
came over to talk to us shortly.

He remembers Pepper
as the cat who was very angry
after his sterilisation surgery.

Perhaps his howling sound when he is scared.
But anyway,
he might not have remembered the correct cat too,
since Pepper got sterilised about two years ago.

The man who was sitting next to Pepper and Emily,
perhaps thinking that Pepper looked so cute in his bow tie,
sort of looked over at Pepper and smiled a little at him.
What he didn't know was that
staring is very intimidating to a cat.

Pepper immediately turned to face the other direction,
a little frightened
(Why is the weird uncle staring at me ? :-<)

Pepper is 4kg,
and now people at the vet clinic
knows that he is a 'fussy eater'
(He forgets to continue eating
whenever he hears some moving sounds behind him)

The assistant had quite an easy time
feeding him the deworming pill.
By some way or other
he managed to drop the pill right into Pepper's throat.
Done!

Anyway, finally after that,
HOME SWEET HOME!
Pepper was so super relieved...

He doesn't go right in and snatch her food of course,
he just waits quietly by the side.

Because he knows unlike Pepper,
Miaomiao is not to be trifled with. ;)

Miaomiao sneaks out

Today we were woken up by Miaomiao's calls in the morning.
A loud, calling for help kind of scream.

I thought it was Momo bullying her again,
but turns out it was not

The stupid stray cat from downstairs
decided to climb many flights of stairs up again,
and was right outside our house.

Miaomiao by some way or other,
managed to sneak out the house through a window pane,
and was outside our house too!

At first we were trying to look for Miaomiao in the house,
but to no avail.

Then I saw Miaomiao sitting outside our house,
from through the window,
and we immediately ran to open the door for her.

For one moment I thought she would sustain serious injuries,
but thanksfully she wasn't hurt.
She was, however, in a bad state of fright,
and was panting quite heavily while she was back in the house.

It's really lucky nothing happened to her,
because if that cat had attacked her,
the injuries would be really bad.

It's been 2+ years,
and the cat never tires of climbing up so many flights of stairs all the time..

The unglam cat

Momo creates so much news all the time.

I was looking at Momo's back one morning
while he was sitting,
and I was thinking to myself,
"Hmm.. Momo's body shape looks so much better now"

Then the next moment he shifted his feet outwards,
so that he was sitting like he always did in the past,

She tied the poo in a plastic bag,
then almost immediately condensation formed on the inside of the bag.

In a sense it is natural,
but still. . Eww!

A Lesson Learnt

Lesson to Momo:
Never bully a female cat even though she's smaller in size.
Girls are not to be trifled with.

At least,
that's what we think happened..

Too much energy!

Momo seems to have more pent-up energy these few days.

For a while he has been quite obedient
and stopped his jumping-on-Miaomiao-and-trying-to-bite-her stunts

These few nights he has been doing it again

I think we need to take turns every night
to chase him around the house
to help burn off his excess energy

Never tired of repetitive action

What happens on a regular routine,
like about 5 times every night:

1. Miaomiao is caught red-pawed poised to jump out the window (onto the corridor),
with just her butt left in the house boundary.

2. Whoever caught her goes "Oi, Miaomiao!"

3. She quickly stops, makes a U-turn, and lie on top of the TV like a sweet little girl.

Even though we are damn sick of having to get up in the middle of
Youtube videos or Internet surfing to scold her while she does that,
she doesn't seems to get tired of attempting to climb out,
making U-turns, and lying on the TV 5 times per night

We can't even have the windows WIDE OPEN
to have some breathing air.

Teamwork is important!

Today I set my alarm at 6.30am for work,
but got woke up at 6am instead
by the tortoiseshell-coloured alarm clock.

So I had a lot more time to prepare for going out.

She went shouting (yes shouting)
"NEOW! NEOW! NEOW!",
that I kind of suspect she knows who is the eldest and stuff.

For one thing I don't think she used that tone
when she woke Emily up previously.
She went "~~.. ~~.." in a gentle sort of tone.

What makes it worse is that Miaomiao and Momo
work paw in paw,
and the second Miaomiao stopped,
Momo starts "Ahh! Ahh!" in the doorway,
that you cannot possibly be hallucinating that you are hearing stuff

Pepper is the only sweet cat who doesn't wake people up in the morning.

Ougwee told him to keep quiet from her bed,
but she don't seem to remember doing that.

One thing the cats know.
Teamwork is important!

No longer guilty

Miaomiao vomitted on my bed last night,
so I had to change my bedsheet
and also throw away my mattress protector.

She doesn't even bother to look guilty anymore :(

It's becoming a thing of routine for her now.

A too hungry cat

Woke up at about 4am today
(due to Pepsi caffeine at night I guess),
and the hopeful Miaomiao was a little hungry already,
though it's still about 3 to 4 hours to her next mealtime.

She kind of waited expectantly for me to feed her,
but wells,
we are quite firm about the fixed meal thing now.

I opened the refrigerator to look for food
(it sounds kind of unfair that Miaomiao can't eat and I can),
then she jumped up onto the stool next to the refrigerator,
and expected food to miraculously appear.
When it didn't she started to nibble on plastic bags
beside where she was,
as if trying to push across her point that she IS hungry
(she always does that anyway)

Why must our cat have such a irritating habbit?

Pepper sticks his head right into Emily's shoes.
"I must smell to find out if Mama is up to anything fishy outside!" :-<

Licking butt-butt

Momo is finally able to lick his butt-butt!

Sounds a little obscene here,
but cats do that anyway,
and for quite a long time
I always noticed that he had problems licking some parts of his body,
and he always sits quite ugily, like :

I realised that he is able to sit properly now!

Momo had lost some weight these 2 months
and is about 7.2kg now.
Far away from the 8kg that I feared he was approaching.

Phew...

The Name is important

Mama: "Momo!"

Momo does not respond.

Mama: "Momo! Momo!"

Momo does not respond.

Mama: "Mo-chan!"

Momo runs over obediently and rather happily.

The consequence of not calling your kitty his correct name from the start..

Momo's nosebleed

Today Momo sneezed,
and blood spurted out from his nose.

His nose kept bleeding and bleeding,
and using tissue did not help

The bleeding went on non-stop
for at least 5 minutes,
and it was quite worrying

We then used cold and wet compress
(thanks to iPhone which could look up information quickly)
The bleeding slightly subsided.

Luckily the blood stopped after that.
Momo has to live with some pink fur
near his nostrils for a while.

Hope it's nothing wrong,
we all got quite a shock seeing so much blood come out of his nose

Happy 2nd Birthday Pepper!

On this very date 2 years ago,
Pepper came into our house,
in a cardboard box with his 3 other cute siblings

Somewhat and somehow,
we decided to keep "The Naughty One",
who has now grown into a handsome young cat.

So here we have,

20 Reasons Why We Love Pepper!

1. He lets us hold his paw, unlike the other 2 who act like their paws are made of gold.

2. He is a very gentle and endearing cat, and has the best temper of all the three, despite giving many the initial impression that he is very fierce because of his saucepan eyes

3. His tail is cute! Although it keeps hooking onto wires sometimes (when he was younger), and scaring the hell out of him.
4.  His pink nose is cute too, it turns blue when the weather turns colder or when he just bathed.
5. He stays up together with whoever needs to finish up homework or projects at night. So sweet!
6. He takes his toy spoon or string to us when he wants to play.
7. He knows tricks such as taking Burp! treats out of the refrigerator.
8. He doesn't really mind it when I carelessly kick him in bed. Miaomiao would scowl (I think) and shift to somewhere else to sleep.
9. He is always so vulnerable, something just tugs at your heartstrings to protect him. For example he doesn't hit Momo when Momo snatches his food and just sits there and do nothing.
10. His "Orwell!" is just so cute and special! And from time to time I engage in an "Or-well!" conversation with him
11. Popo is very happy because whenever she taps the top of the shoe cabinet before she leaves the house,
he would jump up onto the shoe cabinet to say bye-bye to her.
12. He entertains us a lot when he uses the litter tray. We compare him to the penguins in the movie "Madagascar" who always try to dig the ground to go to some other part of the world. He always looks like he is trying to dig a hole into the litter tray.
13. He smells like "chou-chou". Which is the smell of the familiar childhood pillow which is quite comforting.
14. We always have the easiest time bathing him because he would sit still and let us bath him nicely.
15. He knows how to switch the fan on or off (usually unintentionally)
16. He makes this "Wruh!" sound whenever he jumps onto a higher place. Which again is cute.
17. He is also the easiest to cut nails for. I just have to push him by his side so that he falls into a lying position, then he would lie in a relaxed manner while I cut his nails. Unlike a certain cat who acts like I'm murdering her when I'm cutting her nails.
18. He's tall, dark and handsome. His body is very long so he's quite tall for a cat.
19. He is the only one who doesn't think he is an alarm clock like two certain cats! As a not-so-morning person I highly appreciate that.
20. He lets us look forward to going home after a long day of school/work/whatever. :)
