Observations made on morning of 30 Jan, 2011

Momo and Pepper have their breakfast

Momo, who finished his food,
inched over discreetly to Pepper's dish

Emily: "Mo-chan ah!"

Then he quickly scooted back
to sit in front of his food dish,
like he'd been there all along.

Then he stared up like an angel

Momo's Happy Hour

Lately Momo has a self-created
'Happy Hour' session almost every night,
which could occur any time between
10pm to 6am

He just starts running around the house
like some crazy cat.
Maybe he thinks it's a good idea to
lose some weight seeing that
his annual check up is coming up this March

It's a not so happy hour for us,
especially if our things are lying dangerously all over..

Happy 2nd Birthday Miaomiao!

It's Miaomiao's second birthday today!
Two years ago,
on this very day,
the small 3-month old filthy little Miaomiao
came into our house.

From the then timid and scared-of-orange-tee-shirts Miaomiao,
she is now a rather social elite cat,
or at least she acts like one

For the first birthday of the three cats,
I wrote about the story
of them joining our family.

So for the second birthday,
the theme shall be the
20 Reasons why we Love _________!


So here I start:

20 Reasons why we love Miaomiao!

1. Her expression is damn comical!

2. She is a cat with great determination. For example,

if she wants her food in the middle of the night,

she will keep calling and calling and calling

(Woo~~), even if we try to ignore her.

I don't seem to sound like I love her at all :(

3. She is a very maternal cat! She has been a great surrogate mum

to both Pepper and Momo when they just came. She would play with

them, lick them clean and make sure they bury their poo properly.

They don't seem to appreciate it though, they kind of like to bully her.

4. We love her NEOW NEOW!! sounds. So special! :)

5. Her "Miaomiao" eyes when she gets excited watching moving objects.

Then WHAMP! Her paw hits your nose. That was what she was watching.

6. She takes pride in her beautiful tail a lot and swish it with class

while she walks.

7. We can dress her up in pretty little dresses! :)

8. She always looks so guilty whenever she vomits, probably because
she was embarrassed for making a mess on the floor, though we don't
scold her for it.

9. She keeps off the living room table (most of the time) unlike the other
two who keep walking all over our papers and pushing handphones onto
the floor.

10. Popo especially loves her because she tattle-tales on the other two
cats' naughty deeds.

11. Her entertainment cost is extremely cheap. For example, she is very content
with kicking around a piece of Pee Wee litter which is found in abundance in
the litter tray. Or she could just sit in some corner of the house biting on the netting package
of FairPrice's Chef Brand Onion and is still able to enjoy herself.

12. By Emily: even though Miaomiao doesn't like to sleep beside us (since she is
an anti-social kind of cat), she accompanied Emily to sleep the other time
she was sick.

13. Miaomiao is a very patient cat.
If she wants food, she can sit in front of her food dish
for so long without making any sound,
that no one realised she was hungry.

14. She can pronounce her own name. (Since her name is Miaomiao)

15. Much as we don't appreciate this particular part about her, she

knows that we don't like lizards (I think?) and spends time helping

us to exorcise all lizards from the house.

Well, let's give her the benefit of the doubt...

16. By Ougwee: Because Miaomiao amuses us with her "pfff pfff pfff" antics.

Which means using her right paw to tentatively touch some object

she has not figured out what is it, or whacking things with her right paw.

17. She is always well-groomed and sweet-smelling.

18. By Popo: "I don't know." Then she goes back to watching television.
Popo is such a wet blanket. To think Miaomiao always let her know
when the other two cats are naughty.

19. She still shows her little-girl side to us. She loves company when she eats,
a good brushing session now and then, and she always rush to the bed
when she sees someone enters the room, just to get into position for us
to give her a tummy rub.

20. She poops very neatly. Actually Ougwee said that she has
neat litter habbits.

Miaomiao's birthday just over as I'm finishing this entry
12:01am now

Genetics mean so much

Momo always goes "Ah! Ah!"
just like his cat mother downstairs

Yesterday Emily and Ougwee saw
Miaomiao's cat mother
and she made this sound which
sounded kind of "Neow meow!"

Conclusion:
Cat meowing sounds are mainly determined by genetics

Miaomiao prepares for CNY 2011!

Chinese New Year is coming soon,
and Popo just bought a qipao from Chinatown for Miaomiao!

Observations made on morning of 21 Jan 2011

1. Momo gets playful and lunges into a big red plastic
    bag lying on the floor.

2. For the updated ones, you might remember that Miaomiao
   has lately been a frequent victim of Momo's bullying. She sees
   the lump in the red bag and grabs her opportunity!!

3. She jumps on top of the plastic bag and whacks the plastic bag twice.
    On the head. Then pause. Then whacks again.

4. Momo manages to get his head out of the bag. And there he saw Miaomiao,
    who had been secretly attacking him while he was in the bag!

5. Miaomiao froze.

6. Miaomiao quickly ran into the kitchen, under this stack of stools covered
    over with a plastic. There is a hole in the plastic so it kinds of acts like
    her igloo.

7. Miaomiao waits a few seconds. To her relief, Momo does not come to take
    revenge.

8. She ventures out and takes a look. Some butt-shaking occurs, and soon
    Miaomiao and Momo were playing tag together.

Ryan got a toy from Daiso for the cats
It's a furry rat attached to a spring
so that they can hit it around
(like what Miaomiao usually do to innocent lizards)

There's one battery operated similar toy
selling at Pet's Lovers Centre,
but that's damn expensive! (at least it looks that way)

Anyway,
Momo loved the toy the most

The CHICKEN POLLOCKS

Pepper took the opportunity
when the refrigerator door was open,
and used his mouth to fish out
one of his many favourite treats
"CHICKEN POLLOCKS".

Then using his mouth to hold on to the package,
he dragged it from the kitchen
to the living room
(I guess he knows he can't open the ziplock)
and brought it to Emily's side

So Emily helped him open his CHICKEN POLLOCKS
and all were happy
Pepper  because he got his CHICKEN POLLOCKS,
and us because we were gushing over
how smart Peppper was!

What happens at night

It was late in the night,
at about 3.40am.

Everyone in the house was sound asleep,
except this tortoiseshell cat.

Her name is Miaomiao.

She sat beside her Mama Emily's sleeping head,
looked at her with her kitty eyes,
and made a soft sound,
surprisingly able to wake humans up.

I don't know how to spell and describe that sound,
it's not like neow NEOW! where it can be spelt
N-E-O-W.

So she went making that sound.
XXX~!   XXX~!

May I add that she was making that sound
right at Emily's face
It's her new habit since we started the fixed meal thing

She gets hungry at night,
so she always look for the person
that she can wake up the easiest.

So she is either perched on the railing of Emily's bed,
or sitting very near her head
when she feels her hunger pangs

But yesterday I woke up instead,
so I went to the kitchen,
put some food in the food dish,
and while Miaomiao went to eat,
I went back into the bedroom and shut the bedroom door

In case she tries her face-to-face trick again...

Momo,
who was on my bed sleeping,
jumped down my bed
and sat on the floor in the bedroom
when he heard the food sound.

Then he saw me close the door
and go back to sleep

He must have been very bewildered
at why the door was closed.

He went "AHHH~!"

Then since I was back in my bed already,
he jumped on to the table near the bed and sat

I petted his head from my bed.

Then I think that he must have been so happy,
that he felt that no words would describe his happiness

He jumped up to my bed,
with a tiny "Woo!",
and trotted to the foot of my bed where
he normally sleeps,
and then (no prizes for guessing)

AHHH!!~

(I wonder why we have such a weird cat)

Then he started purring VERY VERY LOUDLY

It must feel very nice
that your very sleepy mama even bothers to pet your head

Then he trotted to a spot beside me
and lay down.

I petted him with my eyes closed,
but the irritating thing about him is that
sometimes when he wants to let you know
how happy is he with your sayang-ing,
he would turn his head and bite your hand,
then start purring all over again

His mind is so hard to fathom sometimes..

I guess after that I fell asleep..

How Momo makes his presence known while you are doing work.

Popo's soft spot

Pepper really knows how to please his Popo.

When his Popo goes to bed
he goes quickly to her bed
and prepares to sleep too

Popo was quite pleased,
saying that Pepper came and slept on her pillow

But most of the time he sleeps in his own bed,
a folded blanket and little cushion
that Popo put at the foot of the bed
to make a little bed for Pepper

Occasionally he even accompanies Popo
while she is reading the newspaper
(Sometimes his method of accompanying
is to jump all over the newspaper,
causing it to crumple,
probably to remind Popo of his presence)

MR Phua Chu Kang

Someone whom Emily was talking to about Momo,
the cat with a mole:

"Wah! Like Phua Chu Kang!"

I seriously never thought of that leh

No black scrunchies!

Now it turns out that
we should not use black scrunchies to tie our hair,
because of the BLACK SCRUNCHIE
used in Pepper's sort of treasure hunt game,
where we would hide the scrunchie in the room,
and he goes to find it,
"own time own target" style.

He actually used his mouth
to take out Ougwee's black scrunchie from her hair
(it's another identical-looking one,
not the saliva-laden one)
and ran off with it.

Of course Ougwee entertained him
and stayed still
to let him practise his professional theft tricks

And Pepper keeps dumping his "treasures" on my bed
So scrunchies turn up on my bed for no reason.
Except the reason : Pepper

Misunderstood

Cats are quite a bunch of misunderstood creatures.
People think they know all about them,
in fact they don't really.

Momo really understands!

Emily just got an iPhone 4,
and she was worried the alarm wouldn't wake her up,
as she had to get up early for work today

So last night,
she looked at Momo and said,
"Momo, tomorrow when you hear
'Bep bep bep bep bep'
(imitating the sound of her alarm
which kind of sound like a vehicle reversing),
you must wake me up okay?"

Momo looked at her,
as though he was listening to her,
and understood what she said

Just to be sure,
Emily repeated her words to Momo.

Today morning,
Momo indeed woke Emily up
as soon as he heard her alarm
(Ah!~ Ah!~),
even though Momo had taken leave
for the job of cat alarm clock
for the last month (as we joked)

Momo is so smart!

The glue addicts

Popo has just elephant-glued the
roof of the cabinet back into place,
which, if anyone remembers,
fell inwards due to a certain then-5kg frame
jumping around the roof,
leaving a hole in the top of the closet.

So the room is stinking with glue

And the best thing is,
the cats seem to be attracted to the odour
and keep trying to sniff at the closet.

They are obviously potential glue addicts.

Pepper even found it appropriate
at this time to rest in the closet.

Of all times he had to choose
the time when the closet was saturated
with the odour of strong glue
to lie inside.
